A Texas man announces his plan to spend his “Golden Years” at the Holiday Inn instead of a nursing home:

This anecdote definitely elicited some chuckles around our office, but we were also struck by the fact that he’s essentially comparing apples to oranges. Although living at the Holiday Inn may be both less expensive and more enticing than living in a nursing home, the reality is that the Holiday Inn is not equipped to address any of the myriad of issues that can occur as we age. Their staff can’t monitor health conditions, offer physical/occupational therapy, or address dietary issues, and they’re not equipped to deal with guests who become incapacitated due to conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease.
