Friday’s Food for Thought

Things have undoubtedly gotten tough for many of us lately as we grapple with the ever-evolving threat of COVID-19, and it seems that we may only now be at the very beginning of a long road. As the saying goes, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” So, it’s time to roll up our collective sleeves and get going on supporting each other and fostering community in this time of crisis. To that end, Meier Law Firm, PLLC has compiled a list of ways we can support each other in the days and weeks ahead:

1. Social distancing can increase the sense of isolation for many who are already struggling so make sure to check in with your family, friends, & neighbors. A simple phone call, email, or text message can make a huge difference in someone’s day.

4. Volunteer your time to a charity.
5. Run errands for an elderly or immune-compromised person who may be nervous about leaving the house.
6. If you have kids home from school, have them write letters and draw pictures to send to nursing homes.
7. Buy gift cards from your favorite local businesses for future uses. You can keep them for yourself or surprise a friend with a gift card to their favorite restaurant or store.

9. Use your social media accounts to share helpful information with friends about educational resources, community initiatives, employment protections, quarantine coping strategies, etc.
10. When interacting with others, exercise patience (everyone’s stressed!) and compassion because we’re all in this together!
11. Practice gratitude. Start & end each day by thinking of at least 3 things for which you are thankful.
12. Be gentle with yourself: you are adapting as best you can.
13. Share your talents: teach someone in your household (or the wider world via various social media platforms) a skill you’ve acquired.
14. Enjoy quality time with your loved ones, sharing stories and making memories together.
15. Deliver a homemade or takeout meal to someone who may be struggling.
16. Remind someone in your life that they are a gift, they are loved, and they are important.
